Provision of treatment room health services in Blackburn with Darwen has changed.
There has been a reduction in the number of treatment rooms and as a result treatment room services are no longer available at Mellor branch surgery Centre, Roman Road Health Centre or Bangor Street Health Centre.
Patients who previously attended sessions at these venues can access services with their GP or will be offered an alternative treatment room service nearby.
Services have continued in six other locations across the borough - in some cases with extended opening hours - which means treatment rooms will continue to be available to all patients, no matter which GP practice they attend.
Treatment rooms provide a range of services including blood testing, blood pressure checks, ECGs, ear irrigation and wound care. Some other services that are currently offered through treatment rooms, such as height and weight checks and urine tests will be carried out by GPs instead.
In addition, minor injuries services are available at the Barbara Castle Way Health Centre in Blackburn and Darwen Health Centre from 8.30am to 6pm every weekday.
The service has been reviewed in partnership with GPs and other healthcare providers to make it as efficient and effective as possible.
Here is a summary of the changes:
- Two sites – Barbara Castle Way Health Centre and Darwen Health Centre - deliver the full range of treatment room services every weekday between 8.30am and 6pm.
- Four satellite clinics at Little Harwood Health Centre, Witton Medical Centre, Audley Health Centre and St George’s Surgery offer a smaller range of services - blood tests, wound care, ECGs and blood pressure recording - at agreed times throughout the week.
- Treatment room services are no longer available at Mellor, Roman Road or Bangor Street surgeries and patients from those surgeries either access services at their own GP or are directed to a nearby treatment room.
