The Mike Farrar Self Care Challenge – ‘Dragon’s Apprentice 2008/9’ has been successfully brought to a close in April 2009 in the form of a celebration event held at King Georges Hall, Blackburn. Members of NHS Blackburn with Darwen, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, NHS North West (NHS NW) were in attendance and the evening was kindly opened by Judith Griffin, CEO, NHS Blackburn with Darwen.
This project has been highly recommended as a measure for best practice by NHS North West. Through collaboration, effective communication and the building of greater rapport with our local self help groups, residents’ associations, charitable organisations and community groups, we feel we have started to embed the expressed needs of our communities into our future planning processes, into our self care/management projects, as well as into our Long Term Conditions commissioning developments.
Both successful and unsuccessful groups were invited to attend this latest event, there were presentations made from two of the successful groups and three awards were presented by Professor John Caldwell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine to congratulate individual participants. These included:
The Most Successful Group The Best Mentor A Special Award
The Most Successful Group
The Best Mentor
A Special Award
The Dragon’s Apprentice is to be repeated in 2009/10 and further details will be available shortly to allow expressions of interest from our community groups.
