Meeting Patients Needs

The Meeting Patients Needs Programme is a care partnership between Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus, Blackburn with Darwen Social Services, East Lancashire Primary Care Trust, Lancashire Social Services and East Lancashire Hospital Trusts. It exists to coordinate all programmes of activities that meet the needs of the patient and it supports communication between all organisations, staff and the public.

  • Services in primary careEfforts to move care closer to people's homes led to the building of state-of-the-art health centres throughout East Lancashire's communities.
  • Hospital emergency and planned careInpatient emergencies and 'high risk' planned surgery are located at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. Routine planned care takes place at Burnley General Hospital.
  • Paediatric care The Royal Blackburn Hospital is the specialist centre for all inpatient paediatric care. Burnley General Hospital has a Paediatric Observation and Assessment Unit supported by additional paediatric hospital at home services.
  • Care closer to home Patients with long term conditions such as diabetes receive care and support much closer to home through a network of primary care based services.
  • Maternity choicesMaternity services in East Lancashire have changed following the opening of three new birth centres in Blackburn, Burnley and Rawtenstall. It means babies are no longer born at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
