Phone your usual doctor's surgery number where you will hear a recorded message explaining how you can access the Out of Hours Emergency Doctor Services.
How to Register
Please go to a surgery and ask to register at the Practice. Provided you are residing within the Practice area and the practice are accepting new patients, you will be asked to complete a registration form.
What to do if you can’t find a doctor who will accept you as a patient
Everyone has a right to be registered with a local doctor. To apply to join a list or practice you would only need to complete your medical card. However, if you do not have a medical card you can fill out a form at any doctors surgery called (GMS1). If the doctor is willing to accept you on his/her list they will keep your medical card or form and a new medical card will be posted to you.
If you are unable to gain acceptance on a list of a doctor in the area, you can request allocation to a doctor’s list.

In the event of an accident or any other emergency, you can obtain treatment from any other NHS doctor.
If You Want to Change Your Doctor
You can do this at any time, you do not have to have a special reason. Just fill out the front of your Medical Card and give it to your new Doctor.
If you do not have your medical card please contact your Doctor for a GMS 1 form
If the Doctor is willing to accept you, he / she will sign the card and send it to us, Lancashire and South Cumbria Agency (NHS). We will send you a new Medical Card with details of your new Doctor. You may go to your new Doctor for treatment as soon as they have accepted you.

Performers List
All General Practitioners who wish to work in Primary Care have to be registered on a Performers List for the area in which they work. Once a doctor is accepted onto a Performers List they can work in any other area in England. Doctors should register in the area that they are mainly going to be working in.

Services for Homeless People
If your are homeless and are in the area for less than three months and need to see a doctor, you can see a doctor for immediate necessary treatment or as a temporary resident. You will need to give an address of a friend, hostel or day centre.
Services for Visitors or Temporary Residents
If you are away from home in any part of the country and are in need of treatment, you can register with a GP for up to three months as a temporary resident.
