Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse is one of the most common crimes. It is present throughout society, usually hidden, but there nonetheless. It can affect each and every one of us, no matter what our background, race or religion.
In the past there was silence about domestic abuse and no one to turn to, but over the last few decades the situation has changed and people have begun to speak out. Domestic abuse is now considered as a social and health problem.
People often assume that domestic abuse relates to the physical act, for instance slapping, punching, kicking, sexual abuse or rape. However, it also covers psychological abuse involving humiliation, degradation, or isolation from friends and family.
If you feel that you are suffering from domestic abuse it is important to tell someone so that you can get the help you need. Below is a list of numbers you might find useful but remember that in an emergency do not hesitate to ring the Police by dialling 999 (Mincom 0800 112 999)
