Take control of your own health as part of Self Care Week

NHS Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus and Blackburn with Darwen Council are encouraging residents to take control of their own health.

As part of Self Care Week, people can learn how to improve the way they look after their health, especially those living with a long term health condition.

There are currently more than 1.5million people living in the North West with one or more long term conditions.

Long term conditions can’t be cured but can be managed through medication and therapy.

To help individuals manage their own health, a new six week course has been developed.

The course, ‘You, Me & Us – Self Care in Blackburn with Darwen’ will give advice on how to keep fit and healthy, treat minor ailments and how to live with long term conditions on a daily basis.

Self Care Week will run from November 14-20.

Blackburn with Darwen’s Director of Public Health, Dominic Harrison, said: “There are basic things that we can all have in our medicine cupboards that can help us treat minor ailments when we need to.

“There is a lot we can do for ourselves when it comes to taking care of our own health and this new course can help provide that knowledge and those skills.”
