A series of vibrant new art will decorate Blackburn’s brand new multi-million pound health centre.
Three artists will work closely with members of the public, staff, architects and the Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus, to create dynamic artwork to enhance the building.
Emily Campbell, Lucy Hall and Kirsty Brooks have each been commissioned to create pieces for the main entrance, stairwells and reception areas of the building.
And, in an attempt to get the local community involved in the project, the artists will be running free participatory workshops as they carry out the project.
Emily is creating a unique large scale piece of artwork for the main entrance glazing made up of digital photographs of the local area and landscape merged with imagined and fantastical elements.
Lucy is designing art for the building’s stairwells. Her work frequently incorporates hundreds of small jewel like glass pieces that are kiln fired, and often includes designs directly from participants.
Kirsty will be creating a series of works for the waiting areas, working with the colour schemes of each area and incorporating imagery into walls and reception desks. She works in glass and printed materials and is looking at the use of light in the building.
Each artist will be putting on their workshops at Blackburn Library on the following dates: Emily Campbell – Thursday December 9 (1.30-4.30pm) in the Library Foyer, Lucy Hall – Friday December 10 (1.30pm-4.30pm) in the Abram Room, Kirsty Brooks – Monday December 13 (1.30pm-4.30pm) in the Abram Room
To book a place at any of the workshops, or for more information phone 0161 2564389 or email rob@robvale.co.uk
Places are limited, and will be offered on a first come first served basis.
Sir Bill Taylor, chair of the NHS Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus, said: “The artists will be getting participants directly involved in their processes, from digital photography to glass cutting and text based work.
“This is a great opportunity to share ideas, learn about the artists’ work and methods, and have a real say in the creative elements of the new health facility."
