An easy read leaflet explaining why it’s important to have the seasonal flu vaccination is now available to download from Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus's website.
The leaflet explains why everyone aged 65 and over is routinely offered the jab, as are younger people with long-term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, multiple sclerosis, serious kidney and liver disease. Vaccination is also offered to carers to protect the older and vulnerable people they look after. Around 15 million people in the UK have the jab, which must be done every year as it is altered to match the flu strains in circulation.
As last year, all pregnant women are being offered the seasonal flu vaccination, which this year has protection from the three strains of flu circulating, which includes H1N1 (swine flu). Pregnant women who catch flu are at an increased risk of severe disease, flu-related hospital admissions and giving birth prematurely.
