Residents are being urged to make sure they don’t miss out on the chance to have a say in the local elections on May 5.
A referendum to be held on the same day asks people to vote YES or NO to a proposal to amend the electoral system.
The question being put to voters is whether the UK should continue to use the ’first past the post’ system to elect MPs or should it be changed to the ’alternative vote’ system.
The deadline by which people must be registered to vote is April 14.
In addition, residents who want to vote by post or alternatively cancel a postal vote and attend a polling station, must do so by April 14.
Postal votes should be returned by 10pm on May 5.
Proxy voting is for people who cannot get to the polling station and have someone who will vote on their behalf.
Proxy voters must be registered by April 14 but have until 5pm on April 21 to submit an application for a proxy vote.
Graham Burgess, returning officer for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “To be able to have your say on what takes place in your borough you need to vote.
“Registering to vote is quick and easy but if you're not registered by 5pm on Thursday, April 14, you'll miss out.”
