Countdown on to opening of new multi million pound health centre

The new £21m Barbara Castle Way Health Centre has now been handed over by the construction company to Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus.

Services will begin moving in from Friday, October 21, with the first patients set to walk through the doors on Monday October 24. All services are due to be in place by Tuesday, November 29.

The 8,000-square feet five-level health centre has 121 clinical rooms and will accommodate approximately 250 health care workers, giving a range of health and social services.

This includes GP practices, dentists, mental health clinics, sight and hearing clinics, physiotherapy, a pharmacy and family drop-in.

It will provide access to diagnostics from the latest hi-tech X-ray and scanning equipment, and minor operations will be performed there.

Existing services at the nearby Montague and Larkhill health centres are transferring, as well as a number of services that are currently provided at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

‘YOUNG PERSON’S RESOURCE CENTRE’

The Barbara Castle Way Health Centre will also feature a new resource centre for young people.

The facility will provide a wide variety of services supporting young people’s health and wellbeing. This includes sexual health, drug and alcohol advice, emotional and mental health as well as general help and advice all under one roof.
