Blackburn with Darwen and Pendle could apply for pathfinder status to be among the first in the country to pilot a GP consortia model.
The proposal was endorsed at the first meeting of the LMC GP consortium steering group for Pennine Lancashire.
Most practices in Blackburn with Darwen said they would support the application and indicated they would prefer a BwD consortium.
Pathfinder consortia will be the first to get access to new Department of Health funding to develop new models of working.
The GP consortium steering group is now contacting practices to pass on information and establish a mandate for the group. The aim is to facilitate a bottom up approach to consortium development in the area, though it will up to GPs to decide the size and membership of their consortium.
The steering group is next due to meet on December 14.
