An independent report has been published following the review in September 2009 by the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust into its breast screening clinics.
The review discovered a number of women diagnosed with breast cancer having previously been given the all clear.
This latest independent report was carried out by Frank Burns, former chief executive of Wirral Hospital NHS Trust and an expert in NHS information management.
It confirms that thewomen’s delayed diagnoses were all related to the practice of a single consultantradiologist, and that the East Lancashire Breast Screening Unit is now safe and fit forpurpose.
Attached is a letter for stakeholders from Rineke Schram, Medical Director at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
