New health centre for young people given green light
Blackburn's new multi million pound health centre is to include a 'one stop shop' catering for a whole range of young people's needs. The exciting plans will see the Young People's Resource Centre developed as a separate area, with its own entrance, in the new health centre which is due to be opened in November.
Cervical cancer screening to include HPV testing
HPV testing is to be incorporated into the cervical cancer screening programme from April.
Immunisation training
Free Immunisation Training is being delivered locally. The aim of the two day course is to ensure vaccinators are able to provide accurate and up to date information about vaccine preventable diseases and vaccines. In addition, it will enable vaccinators to provide a safe, effective and high standard of care.
Summary care records
The Summary care record project has been approved by the BMA with an assurance that patients can opt out of the scheme if they wish.
Operating framework
More details have been released by government about the plans for the NHS. The Operating framework for the NHS was published on December 15 and provides the Care Trust Plus with the first indication of its future over the next two years.
Carbon monoxide poisoning awareness
Carbon monoxide poisoning should be a problem of the past, but unfortunately this is not so.
Electronic proformas will reduce unnecessary referrals.
A new system is being introduced to speed up hospital referrals and help prevent unnecessary referrals. Currently referrals to hospitals are made using a number of different methods, for example, letters both paper and electronic or some practices have created their own referral proforma.
New regional commissioning development newsletter
A new regional commissioning development newsletter has been launched. The newsletter has been developed by the SHA commissioning development team and the aim of this newsletter is to provide General Practices in the North West with a summary of the most up to date and relevant information on the White Paper and on the transition to the new commissioning system from a national, regional and local perspective.
Update on urgent care developments in Blackburn with Darwen
Developments are taking place within urgent and unscheduled care for NHS Blackburn with Darwen, following work done by the Transformational Commissioning Board.
Publication of independent report into breast screening
An independent report has been published following the review in September 2009 by the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust into its breast screening clinics.
