Meeting screening targets continues to prove a challenge and work is continuing to increase update. An action plan has been developed to meet the new 35% target for 2010/11.
Changing role of PEC
With the Transformational Commissioning Board (TCB) now central to the function of the Care Trust Plus, members agreed PEC will need to focus more on the clinical governance, quality and performance elements. PEC membership and terms of reference are to be reviewed.
Serious Untoward Incidents at East Lancashire Hospitals Trust
All screening incident issues have been resolved and quality within the ELHA is very robust ,with the hospital now one of the top performers.
Quality Framework
The Quality Framework and scorecard for general practice showed improvements with ethnicity recording, BMI, smoking, breastfeeding and antibiotic prescribing. The medicines management team is looking into concerns around the reduced performance against prescribing.
End of Life Care
A ‘Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ policy is being developed for use across the East Lancashire health economy involving GP practices, Out of Hours and Northwest Ambulance Services (NWAS).
Autosomal Recessive Disorders
Blackburn with Darwen has a significantly raised incidence of autosomal recessive disorders in the Muslim population as a result of consanguineous marriage. Options for a long term strategy across Pennine Lancashire and regionally are being explored.
