Health centres could save hundreds of pounds every year by making simple energy saving changes.
That’s the message of a new carbon campaign which involves nothing more than switching off lights, computers, printers and electrical equipment when not needed and checking that you’re not overheating the building.
Energy champions have volunteered in the borough’s eight health centres to encourage staff in the buildings to save money which could be better spent on services by saving energy.
“Our job is to encourage people to turn things off when they’re not needed. If you go home and leave your computer on overnight or you’re the last one out of a room and don’t turn the lights out, you’re wasting money because you’re wasting energy,” said Jane Parker, lead energy champion for the health centres.
“If the building is uncomfortably hot and then people are turning on fans to cool down, that’s wasting money. These are all simple, little changes that can easily become habits and will make a real difference to tight budgets.”
