Influenza guidance issued to GPs
Following an increase in the number of cases of H1N1 (swine) flu in the UK – Medicines Management at NHS Blackburn with Darwen Care trust plus has issued guidance to local GPs, practice managers and community pharmacies.
COPD newsletter

Practices are being invited to take part in a campaign to promote stroke awareness and the necessity of early recognition and intervention. This backs up the publicity campaign around “FAST” ie Face, Arm, Speech, Time.

The North West Region National Obesity Forum (NOF) is hosting a training day at Salford Royal Hospital on Tuesday February 1, 2011.
Waterside Centre
The Waterside Health and Wellbeing Centre in the Infirmary area of Blackburn, which is planned to be a full GP practice that will cater for at least 6,000 patients, is at the moment going through a lengthy procurement process to make sure the best services are available there.

Maternity choices for mums to be
Maternity services in East Lancashire have changed following the opening of three new birth centres in Blackburn, Burnley and Rawtenstall.
Podiatry changes from January 1
NHS Blackburn with Darwen has reviewed its eligibility criteria for low level basic foot care, including toe nail cutting, to allow those with greatest need to receive more help. This should make NHS podiatry services more equitable for all patients.
Health and well being board approved
Plans to create a new health and wellbeing board have been approved by the Care Trust Plus and Blackburn with Darwen Council.
