Cumbrian Conference on Clinical GP Commissioning

A conference about Clinical GP Commissioning is being organised in Cumbria

The government’s health reforms mean the NHS has to make big changes to the way health services are commissioned and organised. In Cumbria, a lot of the changes set to be introduced are not new.

Through a series of presentations and practical workshops, this conference will detail what is taking place in Cumbria as GP’s move towards a GP consortia. Members of the Blackburn with Darwen GP commissioning consortia are due to attend and will feedback any information that may help inform decisions in the borough.

In Cumbria, the last three years has seen a large share of our £850 million health budget being directly managed by GP led boards representing six localities; Allerdale, Barrow, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland.

Improvements led by GPs have already demonstrated a much bigger focus and investment on improving community health services to deliver more care closer to home.

Moving services away from acute hospitals and into the community not only offers better health outcomes but could also mean making better use of the resources available for healthcare in Cumbria.

The conference will take place on Thursday, April 14 in Penrith.
