The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) was published on the 1st February 2011 and can be accessed via the link below.
What is a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment or PNA?
The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment is an assessment of the current pharmaceutical services that are provided mainly through local community pharmacies. Its aim is to identify any gaps in the services, and see what new services may be offered to improve the health of the local population taking into consideration the pharmaceutical services that are already provided in each neighbourhood.
What are pharmaceutical services?
They include services from community pharmacies such as the supply of medicines and appliances, the provision of healthy lifestyle advice and additional services like stop smoking support and emergency hormonal contraception.
There are also other providers of pharmaceutical services i.e. distance selling pharmacies, sometimes called internet pharmacies, outreach teams from the hospital or private sector.
