Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Management, ‘Sharing the Care’, Barton Grange – 21 November 2011
The theme of the meeting was Chronic Kidney Disease and shared care across primary and secondary care. The event was funded by NHS Kidney Care, Pfizer Ltd, Boehringer Ingleheim Ltd, Merck Sharp Dohme Ltd and Eli Lilly and Company Ltd.
There were a blend of presentations during the evening to give a flavour of how the rate of growth in patients requiring dialysis is slowing down, much of which can be attributed to the dedicated work of the professionals in primary care identifying patients with CKD earlier, transplantation services as well as the promotion of choices in active supportive care. There are real opportunities going forward to continue to work closely with colleagues in primary care to span the patient pathway that will improve patient’s experience, increase choice, improve the quality of care provided and secure best value in available funding. To promote consistency in the provision and commissioning of high quality care focussed on outcomes and NICE quality standards in kidney care.
Discussions are already underway to develop further study days for future.
