  • Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust (PCT) is determined to ensure that we offer equal access to health care and employment opportunities to everyone in the communities we serve, because we value the richness that diversity brings both among our patients and our staff.

  • Blackburn with Darwen PCT will work to eliminate inequities in health care provision based on ethnic or cultural differences.

  • It will take action, both individually and with its partners, to make its services relevant, accessible and culturally sensitive to the needs of all the people it serves.

  • The trust is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all staff regardless of their ethnic origin, disability, age, gender. Sexual orientation, faith or social background.

  • Staff will be trained to recognise stereotyping and in the avoidance of all forms of discrimination.

  • To undertake this the organisation requires clear leadership and responsibility, the PCT aims to make them transparent to all staff , partners and the communities it serves through the publication of this strategy.

  • The Diversity and Equality Strategy will also be extended to services that are commissioned from private and voluntary organisations.

  • The Primary Care Trust is committed to removing barriers and promoting equal access to healthcare and employment opportunities amongst the local minority ethnic communities and there by helping to improve their health. (EHAP)
