You have probably heard about changes to the NHS which mean that in future, GPs will be in charge of planning and buying health services for patients.
In order to take on this job, local GPs have formed a Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning group (CCG).
Currently, the Care Trust Plus is responsible for planning and buying health and social care services in Blackburn with Darwen. The CCG will officially take over from the Care Trust Plus from April 2013, but GPs in Blackburn with Darwen have already started to take delegated responsibility for local health budgets and decision making.
While all this change is taking place, Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust Plus will work as part of a ‘cluster’ with the other Lancashire primary care trusts covering North Lancashire, Central Lancashire, East Lancashire and Blackpool to make sure it all goes smoothly.
Blackburn with Darwen CCG mission statement:
'To ensure the delivery of the highest quality integrated health and social care provision, which is efficient and effective, in order to significantly improve the health and wellbeing of the whole population of Blackburn with Darwen and raise life expectancy in the Borough to the national average in the next 10 years’
